Discover Italy and Greece at their best, when towns and beaches are less crowded and the weather is just right for strolling historic ruins. Feast your eyes on the smooth bone-white columns of Athens’ Parthenon, and the honeycombed spires of Barcelona’s Sagrada Família. Inhale the aroma of wild rosemary and thyme mingled with fresh-baked guttiau bread in Cagliari. In Messina, watch as the bell tower clock’s bronze characters come to life, announcing noon with a lion’s fierce roar and a rooster’s loud crow. Enjoy the sweet sound of Argostoli’s street musicians playing kantades. And discover Delphi, where oracles channeled the prophecies of Apollo to kings. On this voyage, you’ll visit ports like Itea, reserved for yachts; in Trapani, you'll dock closer to key attractions than larger ships can; and you'll cross the Corinth Canal, too narrow for large cruise ships, but just wide enough for your yacht.

Additional Information
The Story
Beneath the chic beaches and trendy cafés, modern Mediterranean crossings trace Europe’s evolution of art, architecture, and history. Set sail amid the vibrant hues of Bronze Age Minoan frescos in the east, transition to lifelike Italian Renaissance marble sculptures, and finish amid the colors, curvatures and complexities of Barcelona’s urban artwork embodying Catalan’s flamboyant Modernisme movement. Venture from weathered temples and vistas atop Greece's mountains to imposing 16th-century Sicilian watchtowers — and the contemporary scaffoldings surrounding Barcelona’s ornate and incomplete Sagrada Família. Chart early Greek triremes trade routes to Egypt and Rome, and imagine hoisting sails 2,000 years later in the company of Spanish and Portuguese explorers bound for still-rumored continents.
Mediterranean countries share a similar climate and crops — grapes, figs, almonds, olives, lemons, tomatoes and mandarins — but a millennia of trade and outside influences provide delightfully diverse cuisines. Bite into flaky, savory, phyllo-wrapped minced lamb with garlic served at a sidewalk eatery in Argostoli. Point your way through a mouthwatering order of arancini — a Sicilian delight consisting of crisp, deep fried rice balls stuffed with beef, pork and local cheeses. Then, conclude with an enchanting Barcelonan paella supper with the creamy citrus and cinnamon decadence of Crema Catalana.
Insider Tips
- Take in the big picture of the expansive Delphi ruins complex from the top. A brief, 20-minute walk along a little known but easy-to-find trail leads to picturesque views at the top of the ruins.
- A Kephalonia harbor stroll connects with the longest seaside stone bridge in the world. The De Bosset Bridge was built in 1813 across the bay of Argostoli to improve local infrastructure. The pedestrian bridge stretches a little less than half a mile and offers superb waterfront views.
- Tourists visit Cagliari for the hallmark Sardinian Fregula, a couscous-like seafood pasta featuring clams and fish eggs — but don’t miss out on the delicious simplicity of local pasta topped with shredded Pecorino, a delightfully rich and regional cheese made from sheep’s milk.
- Plan Italian visits around riposo — an important afternoon break for small businesses. From 1 PM until at least 4 PM shop owners close for family meals and breaks. Luckily, coffee shops often remain open during these hours.
- Barcelona’s oldest buildings and coziest tapas bars are in the Barri Gòtic, or Gothic Quarter — easily accessed from the touristy La Ramblas along the picturesque Carrer Ferràn, a street decorated with colorful shops, ornate wrought-iron balconies, and high-arched 1800s architecture.

The old meets the new in this sunny Catalan metropolis, where narrow alleyways contrast with grand boulevards, trendy cuisine meets homemade tapas, and everywhere you're greeted by the warm, welcoming smiles of the fashionable locals. Don't miss UNESCO sites like the mind-boggling architecture of Antoni Gaudí or La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, with its eight decorative spires soaring hundreds of feet into the sky.

Corfu, Mon Repo Palace & Corfu Town *
Corfu, Mon Repo Palace & Corfu Town *
The tour begins with a scenic drive through the heart of town, leading you into Corfu's lush and verdant countryside, a striking contrast to most Greek islands. As you travel, you'll pass groves of olive, orange, and lemon trees, interspersed with tall, elegant cypress trees. Your first stop is the Mon Repos Palace, perched atop Analipsis Hill near the Kanoni area. Built in 1826 by British Commissioner Frederic Adams as a gift to his Corfiot wife, Nina Palatianou, this charming palace combines colonial architectural elements with a picturesque, green setting. Originally a summer residence for British governors, Mon Repos was later gifted to King George I of Greece when the Ionian Islands were united with Greece in 1864. The palace also holds historical significance as the birthplace of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on June 10, 1921. During World War II, it served as the residence of the Italian governor of the Ionian Islands. Over the years, ownership of the palace was disputed between the Greek government and the former royal family of Greece. In 2002, the European Court of Human Rights ruled in favor of the former King Constantine, awarding him compensation for the properties lost after the monarchy was abolished in 1975. Today, Mon Repos is a beautifully restored tourist attraction managed by the Municipality of Corfu, welcoming visitors from around the world. Surrounded by a large park, the palace offers a serene environment, and across from it lie the ruins of ancient Corfu, suggesting that Mon Repos may have been built on the site of the island's original city. The tour continues to Kanoni, where you'll see the old cannon that gives the area its name. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy views of the Vlacherna nunnery and Mouse Island in the distance. On the return journey, you'll take a different route back to town, where you can stroll through the narrow, balconied streets of the old district. The tour concludes with a visit to the beautiful church of St. Spiridon before returning to the quayside. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

Before there were fortune cookies there was the oracle of Delphi, dating back to 1400 B.C. The oracle gave cryptic guidance to the leaders of the day and was so highly respected that Delphi, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, became known as the center of the world. An optional tour lets you go exploring, from the Temple of Apollo to the Delphi Archaeological Museum, which contains some of the finest works of art in Greece.
Itea, Mythology of Delphi *

Itea, Mythology of Delphi *
In antiquity Delphi was one of the world's most important religious centers. The Sanctuary of Apollo attracted a host of pilgrims who came to consult the oracle. Even now an aura of mystery surrounds the ruins of Delphi,a UNESCO World Heritage Site, exposed on a rocky slope. For sheer grandeur of natural beauty combined with ancient ruins, there is probably no other spot on earth that rivals Delphi. Visit the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo , where the celebrated oracle Pythia dwelt. Her ambiguous prophecies were known and respected all over the ancient world. Visit the Temple of Apollo , the Sacred Way , the amphitheater , the best preserved stadium of Greece, and the Castalian spring , where in ancient days the pilgrims had to wash before they were allowed to consult the oracle. In the Delphi museum, see such treasures as the Omphalos , which marked the center of the world, and the magnificent bronze Charioteer , one of the finest pieces surviving from the 5th century BC. Itea, Monastery of Ossios Loukas *

Itea, Monastery of Ossios Loukas *
Departing from the quayside, your motor coach will proceed along a picturesque and twisting road on a 45-minute drive where you can enjoy the relaxing views of the typical Greek countryside . Standing impressively on the brow of a peaked hill facing south, the majestic Monastery of Ossios Loukas commands a spectacular view of the adjacent valley. In some ways surpassing the famous Byzantine Church at Daphne, the monastery forms one of the most impressive memorials to the artistic vitality of the empire, during the revival of prosperity under the Macedonian Dynasty (865 - 1059). The monastery bears the name of a local hermit, the Blessed Loukas (Ossios Loukas) of Stiri, who was famed for his austerity, the dignity of his life, his prophecies and the miraculous cures he performed. Departing the monastery your tour will return to the port via the town of Arachova, famous for its handmade woolen carpets. Here you will have some free time to browse the picturesque streets and shops. Please not e: Wear comfortable walking shoes. The monastery is not wheelchair accessible.

You'll want to be on deck today as we transit the narrow Corinth Canal with other private yachts and Greek mail steamers. It's a shortcut reserved for petite ships like ours, and as we cruise between the narrow limestone walls we are the envy of all the ancient Romans who once portaged their ships along this very route before there was a canal. Canal transit time and duration is subject to change based on traffic and canal authorities.

With 3,000 years of history, you can't turn around in Athens without encountering the past. The Acropolis, a UNESCO site, the Plaka, and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees. But leave time if you can to climb Pnyx Hill for photos of the Parthenon at sunset, to buy your own set of Greek komboloi (worry beads), and to explore the metro stations that serve as mini-museums for the relics that are constantly being unearthed.
