With 3,000 years of history, you can't turn around in Athens without encountering the past. The Acropolis, a UNESCO site, the Plaka, and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees. But leave time if you can to climb Pnyx Hill for photos of the Parthenon at sunset, to buy your own set of Greek komboloi (worry beads), and to explore the metro stations that serve as mini-museums for the relics that are constantly being unearthed.

You'll want to be on deck today as we transit the narrow Corinth Canal with other private yachts and Greek mail steamers. It's a shortcut reserved for petite ships like ours, and as we cruise between the narrow limestone walls we are the envy of all the ancient Romans who once portaged their ships along this very route before there was a canal. Canal transit time and duration is subject to change based on traffic and canal authorities.

Corfu, Mon Repo Palace & Corfu Town *
Corfu, Mon Repo Palace & Corfu Town *
The tour begins with a scenic drive through the heart of town, leading you into Corfu's lush and verdant countryside, a striking contrast to most Greek islands. As you travel, you'll pass groves of olive, orange, and lemon trees, interspersed with tall, elegant cypress trees. Your first stop is the Mon Repos Palace, perched atop Analipsis Hill near the Kanoni area. Built in 1826 by British Commissioner Frederic Adams as a gift to his Corfiot wife, Nina Palatianou, this charming palace combines colonial architectural elements with a picturesque, green setting. Originally a summer residence for British governors, Mon Repos was later gifted to King George I of Greece when the Ionian Islands were united with Greece in 1864. The palace also holds historical significance as the birthplace of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on June 10, 1921. During World War II, it served as the residence of the Italian governor of the Ionian Islands. Over the years, ownership of the palace was disputed between the Greek government and the former royal family of Greece. In 2002, the European Court of Human Rights ruled in favor of the former King Constantine, awarding him compensation for the properties lost after the monarchy was abolished in 1975. Today, Mon Repos is a beautifully restored tourist attraction managed by the Municipality of Corfu, welcoming visitors from around the world. Surrounded by a large park, the palace offers a serene environment, and across from it lie the ruins of ancient Corfu, suggesting that Mon Repos may have been built on the site of the island's original city. The tour continues to Kanoni, where you'll see the old cannon that gives the area its name. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy views of the Vlacherna nunnery and Mouse Island in the distance. On the return journey, you'll take a different route back to town, where you can stroll through the narrow, balconied streets of the old district. The tour concludes with a visit to the beautiful church of St. Spiridon before returning to the quayside. Please note : Wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

Small boats will be waiting to take you on a breathtaking trip across its mysterious salt water encircling you in a vast shimmering play of blue and violet colors, captured by the sun filtering through a hole in the chasm, 100 feet overhead. The water begins where you did in Argostoli, entering through swallow holes in the coast and traveling under the island to this cave. Cagliari, Monte Arcosu Nature Reserve by 4x4 Adventure *
Your driver-guide will pick you up directly at the port in your 4-wheel-drive vehicle. Arriving at the reserve, begin your exploration with an intimate look at the area's fauna and flora. Interestingly, Monte Arcosu was once a private hunting reserve. Now a wildlife sanctuary, the park offers its resident creatures a place to peacefully feed and roam. One of the more well known animals of the park is the Sardinian deer. With numbers that were once on the decline due to poaching, the deer today are enjoying an increase in population. Also notable is the park's terrain and plant life. Monte Arcosu, the peak that lends its name to the reserve, is characterized by deep narrow valleys that host luxuriant woods. Holm oaks, cork oaks, myrtle, rosemary and rockrose are just a few of the trees and plants that can be found in the reserve's nearly 10,000 acres. Some of the animals that thrive here include the aforementioned Sardinian deer, along with wild boar, African wild cats, golden eagles and rare species such as the peregrine falcon and Tyrrhenian painted frog. You will also have to opportunity to enjoy a typical Sardinian snack. Leave your 4WD vehicle for an optional 40-minute guided walk through the reserve, for an opportunity to see some of these species up close. Then, return to your 4WD vehicle for the return to the pier and your waiting yacht. Please note: Dress in casual clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes.

The old meets the new in this sunny Catalan metropolis, where narrow alleyways contrast with grand boulevards, trendy cuisine meets homemade tapas, and everywhere you're greeted by the warm, welcoming smiles of the fashionable locals. Don't miss UNESCO sites like the mind-boggling architecture of Antoni Gaudí or La Sagrada Familia Cathedral, with its eight decorative spires soaring hundreds of feet into the sky.

Legend says Gibraltar was one of the two pillars erected by Hercules to mark the edge of the world. Take the cable car to the top to see if you can see it from here. No, that's not it. That's just Africa. What a view.

Gibraltar, Exclusive Mayor's Parlour & Hidden Gems of Gibraltar *
From the quayside travel north to the border between this small colony and Spain. View this remarkable border and the Spanish mainland beyond. Proceed along the outskirts of town, passing the American War Memorial and The Trafalgar Cemetery to arrive at Europa Point. From this vantage point you can admire views of the coast of North Africa, 12 miles across the famous Straits of Gibraltar. You will appreciate why this territory was and continues to be of such strategic importance to the British Navy. Your tour will then take you on to Rooke's Battery, a now derelict artillery battery on the west side of the Rock of Gibraltar. The Battery has a plaque labelled '1906' and is named after Sir George Rooke who commanded the British Fleet when Gibraltar came under British Rule. Move on to the nearby Windsor Suspension Bridge. One of Gibraltar's newest tourist attractions, it is not for the faint hearted. This spectacular feat of engineering is 233 feet (71 meters) in length, across a 164-foot (50-meter)-deep gorge, affording magnificent views across the bay and city of Gibraltar. The Rock's Apes spring to mind at the mention of the Rock of Gibraltar and here is where your next stop will take you. You will take a short walk down to King Charles V Wall, better known as 'Ape's Den' which seems to be a usual habitat of the apes, which are indeed a breed of tailless monkeys (Macaca Sylvanus), that roam free on the rocky slopes. They are endearing creatures with a penchant for handbags to say nothing of cameras and hats. Reboard your bus, which will take you on a short drive to Princess Caroline's Battery, a former artillery battery located at the northern end of the Gibraltar Nature Reserve. It was constructed in 1732 and named after the third daughter of King George II. You will be transferred to the City Hall, to visit the Mayor's Parlour and enjoy some cold canapes and beverages. You will then be given some time to roam the building in its entirety including the National Art Gallery. Have your cameras ready as you are allowed to take photos of all the works of art which are on display. Who knows, if you are lucky, you might even run into His Worship the Mayor of Gibraltar and get a chance to have a chat with him and even take a photo with him. You will once again board your motorcoach and be transferred back to the yacht. Please note : The monkeys are animals and are not to be touched however friendly they may seem. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your camera.
